Galin Education is seeking a dedicated and insightful College Counselor to join our team of experts in guiding students and their families through the intricate journey of college admissions. In this role, you will serve as a primary mentor, strategist, and advocate, helping students identify their goals and navigate the application process with confidence. Whether working remotely or in one of our offices, you will leverage your deep understanding of selective admissions to provide personalized support that empowers students to find their best-fit institutions.
We are looking for a professional who possesses impeccable communication skills and the unique ability to build rapport with both high-school-aged students and their parents. This position offers the flexibility of part-time or full-time status, allowing you to manage a caseload that fits your professional goals while contributing to the continuous enhancement of our counseling practices. As our team grows, you will play a vital role in expanding our current methodologies, supporting essay coaches, and ensuring every family receives a comprehensive and high-touch experience.
Key ResponsibilitiesOur College Counselors provide holistic support throughout the entire admissions cycle, ensuring that every student is well-prepared and strategically positioned for success.
- Manage a caseload of approximately 30 students (full-time) or 5+ students (part-time) per graduating class, guiding them through every phase of the admissions process.
- Maintain regular and transparent communication with parents to provide updates, manage expectations, and offer expert guidance.
- Utilize publicly available data and internal resources to provide evidence-based advice regarding college selection and application strategies.
- Support fellow counselors and essay coaches to ensure consistency and excellence across the organization.
- Engage in continuous professional development by attending national conferences, participating in webinars, and conducting college tours.
- Develop educational materials, training modules, and resources to improve team knowledge and student outcomes.
- Contribute to brand authority by writing blogs and articles targeted at high school families and speaking publicly at community events.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with local high school counselors and other educational specialists to strengthen our referral network.
The ideal candidate brings a blend of professional expertise in the higher education landscape and the interpersonal skills required for high-stakes counseling.
- A Bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree in a relevant field is highly preferred.
- A minimum of three years of experience in admissions at a selective college or as an independent counselor, OR at least five years of experience as a high school guidance counselor.
- Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex information clearly.
- Strong organizational skills and an uncompromising attention to detail.
- Proficiency in utilizing web-based tools and platforms for student advising and tracking.
- Flexibility to work later afternoons, evenings, and weekends to accommodate the schedules of students and their families.
- A proactive mindset with the desire to innovate and improve current admissions counseling practices.
