As a key member of our preconstruction team, you will be responsible for developing comprehensive cost estimates, compute raw material costs, and lead execution planning for high-impact projects ranging from bridges and highways to specialized infrastructure in the Caribbean region.

In this role, you will lead the bid tendering process by analyzing blueprints, performing value engineering, and collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure every project is built on a foundation of safety and financial integrity. At Aecon, we lead the industry with purpose, putting our people at the heart of transformational change in transportation and energy while fostering an inclusive environment where your expertise directly contributes to building a sustainable future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute accurate quantity takeoffs and unit pricing utilizing industry-standard estimating software.
  • Create detailed sketches, drawings, and specifications to meet client requirements while analyzing complex blueprints.
  • Perform value engineering and participate in constructability reviews during the preconstruction cycle to optimize project delivery.
  • Drive the production of detailed cost budgets for successfully bid projects and partner in maintaining a historical cost database.
  • Solicit and evaluate scopes of work and quotations from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
  • Develop a mastery of construction means and methods to accurately assess their impact on overall project costs.
  • Oversee projects under construction to analyze actual field costs versus estimates for continuous improvement of estimating accuracy.
  • Participate in turnover meetings with Project Management teams and manage tender closings, including document reviews and proposal compilation.
  • Address addendums, change orders, and perform site visits for complex tenders as required by the project scope.

Qualifications
  • A Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience in estimating for medium to large-scale construction projects of high complexity.
  • Deep understanding of construction industry technical matters, including procurement routes and value management.
  • Expert proficiency in MS Excel, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, P6, and In-Eight (Hard Dollar) or equivalent estimating software.
  • Advanced ability to read and interpret construction drawings, contract language, terms and conditions, and bonding requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of project controls, including cost tracking, scheduling, and general construction requirements.
  • Prior experience in conceptual estimating and a robust understanding of sub-trades and material markets.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills, with the ability to lead meetings and present complex data clearly.
  • RICS or AACE accreditation (or working towards) is considered a valuable asset.

Benefits
  • Comprehensive support for mental, emotional, and physical well-being for you and your family.
  • Accelerated career growth through Aecon University and dedicated Leadership Programs.
  • A culture committed to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, supported by Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).
