About the Role

Clayful is a mission-driven EdTech startup dedicated to tackling the youth mental wellness crisis by providing every middle and high school student in the United States with access to free, life-changing coaching. As a Youth Mental Wellness Coach, you will join an elite team of educators and mental health experts to provide on-demand and scheduled support to students in grades 4-12, helping them navigate stress, relationships, and identity through our innovative coaching platform.

This is a flexible 1099 contract position designed for professionals who seek purposeful, part-time work alongside other commitments. You will engage with students primarily during and after school hours, ranging from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM PST. While hours vary based on student demand—typically ranging from 1 to 3+ hours per week—the impact you make is consistent and profound. We prioritize applicants located in California, the Pacific Time Zone, or the Mountain Time Zone, as well as bilingual candidates fluent in Spanish.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver responsive, empathetic coaching to young people through secure audio, video, and chat-based platforms.
  • Support students from diverse and historically marginalized communities with high levels of cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Navigate complex student challenges including academic pressure, social dynamics, and self-esteem issues.
  • Adhere strictly to established crisis protocols, collaborating in real-time with licensed Coach Supervisors to ensure student safety.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and adapt quickly to new coaching tools and organizational processes.
  • Maintain a consistent presence during high-activity windows, specifically 7:00 AM–2:00 PM and 4:00 PM–7:00 PM PST.

Qualifications

  • Must possess or be eligible for the California Wellness Coach Certification. Eligibility pathways include an Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree with 400 field hours, or 1,350+ hours of youth-focused workforce experience.
  • Minimum of one year of professional coaching experience with a verifiable certification.
  • At least four years of professional experience in mental health, youth work, or wellness coaching.
  • An Associate’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as Psychology, Social Work, or Human Services.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is highly preferred.
  • A reliable laptop or desktop computer with high-speed internet (50+ Mbps) and a private, distraction-free workspace.
  • Residency within the United States for the duration of the contract.
  • A natural empathy for young people and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving startup environment.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive onboarding and framework training to ensure you are confident and prepared before your first session.
  • Real-time supervision from licensed professionals, ensuring you are never alone when navigating difficult student interactions.
  • True schedule flexibility that allows you to integrate meaningful work around your primary career or personal life.
  • Membership in a supportive community of like-minded coaches dedicated to youth advocacy.
  • The opportunity to provide mental health support to students who would otherwise have no access due to financial or systemic barriers.
  • Professional growth opportunities within a rapidly expanding EdTech organization.
